Updates and apps

Hi all (well whoever might be reading that is)

I’m back and motivated again. Some quite cool things have happened since I last wrote a post. Including my first affiliate payment of over $100. Still down overall but have to start somewhere! I actually slowed down activity after that to an almost standstill which was a shame, but looking now to get back into the throws of things.

3 lessons for new affiliates

I started this blog to a) help myself learn, but also b) to help others learn a bit faster and in a bit more of an efficient way. Anyway  this week we had some pretty decent affiliate marketing campaign leanings that I think are worth sharing with everyone. The main lesson to take away from this is that slow and steady wins the race ( I have actually written 3 lessons for new affiliates). I am assuming by now that you have your tracking, traffic source and other up and running and you have possible launched a campaign. without further ado lets get started…

Holiday Hotel Hacking!

Hi fellow Adstackers!

Firstly an apology to you all for the not so constant stream of marketing information (I am aiming to change this!) I have been away on holiday, busy with work amongst a host of other adventures. However  I have managed to find out something really nice that I want to share with you all.

What you will need:

  • Chromecast
  • PC/Mac
  • Connectify Hotspot 2016.
  • Netflix

So part of being away, I was in Belgium with the Mrs and the child. Being that the child is 8 months old, and it was cold and raining in Brussels I didn’t really have many options, but to either get drunk (woohoo Belgian beer however not quite the appropriate option) So  I took to some hotel hacking.

Having envisioned that much of the trip would be in the said hotel room, I prepared and took my Chromecast well in the knowledge that hotel TV is always pretty crappy with very limited viewing options. Part of the reason I also took it is that I read somewhere on the internet that it is possible to hack hotel TV with a Chromecast and as we all know if it is on the internet then it must be true!

Anyway I took on the task and won. As I know affiliates love going to conferences, and with the new year in it throw and a whole new bunch of hotel staying and conferences ahead, here is the how to hack your hotel TV.

a) Go to the back of the TV, plug in your Chromecast and remove any hotel like wires, this includes the ethernet cable they have in the back there as well as the antennae.

b) Download and install Connectify hotspot 2016 you can get that from here

c) Startup Connectify hotspot, there is a pretty good tutorial about what to do.

*** Connectify hotspot is a neat tool that lets you use your laptop as a hotspot. One of the problems with hotels is that the internet even if it is free, often requires some kind of login, which as you may or may not know is not possible to do on a Chromecast. Connectify helps get around this by letting you login into the internet on your laptop and then using it as a hotspot which you can then in turn connect your Chromecast too.

d) once you have your hotspot set up go ahead and connect your Chromecast.

e) finally log into Netflix and you should be good to go!

you can I imagine also use this with Amazon fire sticks, rockus etc… anything that you can stream TV from basically. Also if you are a Kodi user you could use it for that as well. I can do a follow up about how to connect your Kodi device to the Chromecast but that is for another post.

Anyway, enough from me for the moment, hoping to get some nice new posts up for you in the coming few weeks. Some more about Adsbridge and how to use it, as well as some more write ups of some ad networks such as Adcash etc…

over and out!
